Best Ways to Clean Kitchen Appliances

Something that should be on everyone’s to-do list: tackling a messy kitchen and cleaning your kitchen appliances! On average, Americans spend over 35 minutes a day in their kitchen, whipping up meals and making a mess. Spills can cause grime and build up on your appliances, hindering their effectiveness. New gadgets, pretty paint colors and stylish decor don’t stand a chance in a dirty, grimy kitchen.

While this may seem like a tough or time consuming task to tackle, fortunately all you need to achieve gleaming appliances is a bit of hard work and a little know-how. Make a clean kitchen a reality with these smart tips and tricks from the professionals at Berk International.

Cleaning the Dishwasher
Your dishwasher’s job is to clean your dishes, and your job is to keep your dishwasher clean. Regularly cleaning your dishwasher can prevent foul odors and grime buildup. To clean your dishwasher, first take out the racks and wipe down the inside with warm, soapy water. Check the drainage system and make sure it's free from any food bits. Grab a toothbrush and clean the rack wheel. Next, fill the detergent cup with white vinegar and run an empty cycle on the longest, hottest setting. Alternatively, you can place a cup of white vinegar in a dishwasher safe cup on the top rack and run an empty cycle on the longest, hottest setting. You can also use baking soda to leave your dishwasher smelling fresh.

Cleaning the Stove
Your stovetop receives the brunt of most spills. From grease splatters to messy mixing, everything you cook is probably going to end up on your stovetop. Cleaning your stove is simple. Using an all-purpose cleaner, wipe down the area with a sponge or towel and remove any stuck on food bits. While cleaning the top of your stove is quick and easy, you can’t forget about the inside—your oven. If you spy smoke or there’s unpleasant odors coming from inside your oven, it’s time to get the cleaning gloves out. Cleaning the inside of your oven can be easy to master with a few simple steps:

Heat your oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place a pan of water on an oven safe dish and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Turn the oven off.
Let the water cool, then mix with dish soap. Using a sponge, clean the inside of the cooled down oven.

Cleaning the Refrigerator
It’s a good idea to go through your fridge once a week and check for expired foods and any accidental spills. Every 3 months or so, a refrigerator deep clean can rid your home of unpleasant odors, old food, and clutter while leaving your fridge looking as good as new. To clean your refrigerator:

Mix a 1:1 ratio of vinegar and water. (Alternatively, an all-purpose cleaner works here too.)
Remove all the drawers and shelves and spray with your cleaner. Wipe down. Don’t forget the door gasket and outside of your fridge!

Spills, splatters, and grime won’t stand a chance after you’re through cleaning your kitchen.
